How to report a crypto scam in Canada
Report to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and your local police, and flag investment fraud to your provincial securities regulator.
Report to these authorities
- •Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) — report online or call 1-888-495-8501.
- •Your local police — file a report and keep the reference number.
- •Your provincial securities regulator (via the CSA) — for investment fraud, and to check if a firm is registered.
Do this in every case
- •Stop all contact and send no more money — including "fees" or "taxes" to withdraw.
- •Secure your accounts (passwords + 2FA) and move any remaining crypto.
- •Preserve evidence: screenshots, wallet addresses, transaction hashes.
- •Tell the exchange or bank involved, and report the scam wallet address on Chainabuse.
⚠️ Beware "recovery" services. Anyone who contacts you promising to get your money back for an upfront fee is almost always a second scam. See the red flags →
