How to report a crypto scam in the UK
Report to the national fraud service and the financial regulator, and call your bank straight away — fast reporting gives the best chance of stopping further loss.
Report to these authorities
- •Action Fraud — the national fraud & cybercrime reporting centre for England, Wales & Northern Ireland (or call 0300 123 2040).
- •Police Scotland — if you're in Scotland, call 101 (Action Fraud doesn't cover Scotland).
- •FCA — report the unauthorised firm or scam to the Financial Conduct Authority.
- •Your bank — call the fraud number on your card immediately to flag the payment.
Do this in every case
- •Stop all contact and send no more money — including "fees" or "taxes" to withdraw.
- •Secure your accounts (passwords + 2FA) and move any remaining crypto.
- •Preserve evidence: screenshots, wallet addresses, transaction hashes.
- •Report the scam wallet address on Chainabuse.
⚠️ Beware "recovery" services. Anyone who contacts you promising to get your money back for an upfront fee is almost always a second scam. See the red flags →
